As part of a group of about 30 job seekers, she went to a working with reasonable Jan. 30 that showcased Washington State career opportunities at JBLM’s Hawk Career Center.
„I just attempt to make the most of all the resources and services that the (Transition Assistance Program) Center has to offer, simply to ensure I’m as prepared as possible,“ she stated.
The focus of the task fair on state work, rather than employment in different markets, made it different than others on the setup. Sponsored by the Veterans Employee Resource Group, WorkSource and the TAP, https://www.opad.biz/employer/jobs-4me/ it started with a panel of veterans from state firms, who shared their experiences and addressed concerns. Additional task fairs like the Jan. 30 event will be held May 8, July 10 and Sept. 11.
To prepare for them, „gown for success,“ bring your resume and practice your elevator pitch, Gentz stated.
An elevator pitch is a „fast intro of yourself, who you are and what you’re seeking to do,“ Handoe stated, mentioning that the skill is taught as part of the TAP.
One of the task fair’s objectives was to help people learn more about career chances and how their skills align with them, Gentz stated.
Education is an essential advantage of going to a task fair, as about 40% of those who begin with the TAP learn they’re „not ready to make that dive yet,“ or they have seen the offered chances and choose to continue serving, Gentz stated.
„We see that generally every year,“ he stated. „We desire them to make an educated decision about their career.“
Part of the education piece is learning more about finances, consisting of credit reports, budget plans and „developing a savings so you have something to deal with when it’s time to get out,“ Handoe said.
„Everybody’s going to get out of the Army one day,“ he stated, „but while you remain in, are you doing everything you can to prepare to get out?“
Job fairs also exist to assist people with networking, seeing what people in the outside world are trying to find – consisting of certifications, accreditations and [empty] education – and finding out about their hiring practices, Handoe stated.
„You should be doing prep work now for what it is you desire to do later down the roadway,“ he stated.
That prep work includes getting ready for jobvn24.com task fairs.
„You need to enter into a hiring fair with a strategy of what you’re going to do and not simply meander around,“ Handoe stated.
He explained that participants must identify the companies they wish to speak to and research study them ahead of time, to enable educated discussions with employers.
